
MG Motor Malaysia recently showcased the all-new MGS5 EV to the Malaysian media during an exclusive preview event, announcing an estimated starting price of RM115,000. The B-segment electric SUV represents the brand’s fresh chapter in Malaysia, combining rapid charging capabilities, spacious interior, and advanced driver assistance features. The local variant of the MGS5 EV, which made its global debut in China last October, will be specifically tailored for Malaysian roads and is scheduled to be officially launched soon.
MG Motor, which started as Morris Garages in 1924, aims to make electric mobility accessible to all drivers ready to embrace a new electric lifestyle. The brand is owned by SAIC Motor, one of the world’s top 10 car manufacturers, which ranked 93rd on the 2023 Fortune Global 500 list. SAIC Motor Malaysia is responsible for distribution, sales, marketing, and after-sales services for MG vehicles in the country.

The vehicle comes in two battery configurations: a 49kWh option paired with a 125kW motor delivering 170PS, 250Nm of torque, and up to 340km range (WLTP), and a larger 62.2kWh battery pack offering extended range of up to 430km with 150kW DC fast charging capability. Both variants feature rear-wheel drive for enhanced handling and driving dynamics.
Standard features across all models include 6.6kW AC charging, Vehicle-to-Load functionality, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a 12.8-inch central control screen with voice control, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, and comprehensive safety features including seven airbags and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.
The premium 62kWh battery variant offers additional features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, leather and fabric combination seats with MG perforated pattern, heated leather steering wheel, power-adjustable driver’s seat, premium audio, and a 360-degree surround view camera.
The MGS5 EV will be available in five colour options: Arctic White, Monument Silver, Camden Grey, Dynamic Red, and Elegant Latte (limited to select variants), all featuring dark interior upholstery combining leather and fabric.
