BMW Group Malaysia has unveiled three new premium vehicles at The Art of Driving 2025, marking a significant expansion of the automaker’s local portfolio with both electric and petrol options. The new BMW iX xDrive60 M Sport Pro, BMW iX xDrive45 Sport, and locally assembled BMW X5 xDrive40i M Sport will be available at all authorised BMW dealerships nationwide starting 25 July 2025.

The launch, held against the backdrop of one of Malaysia’s most prestigious golf events on 21 July 2025, underscores BMW’s strategic focus on what the company calls “Technology Openness” and “the Power of Choice” – offering customers flexibility between fully electric and traditional powertrains. This dual approach reflects the evolving automotive landscape in Malaysia, where consumers increasingly seek premium options across different powertrain technologies.

“As the leading premium automaker and premium electric vehicle provider in Malaysia, we set out not only to expand our portfolio of offerings in Malaysia, but also to redefine what it means to experience luxury. For us, luxury is not defined by fine materials and craftsmanship alone — it is the power to choose. This is what we offer our customers through our guiding principles of Technology Openness and the Power of Choice.”

Benjamin Nagel, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia

The executive emphasised BMW’s comprehensive approach to premium mobility: “Today, we unveil our latest premium models, offering both petrol and fully electric powertrains. These models embody the best of design, innovation, and sustainability — all rooted in our Heritage in Motion, our reputation and our expertise that have set the standard for premium automotive excellence for over 50 years in Malaysia. Just as we have redefined driving experience, we have redefined the ownership experience with ‘Relax. We Care.’ and ‘All In. Simply Smart.’ These services go beyond the vehicle, offering peace of mind and ensuring a complete premium ownership experience.”

The two new BMW iX variants represent the latest evolution of BMW’s first exclusively all-electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), building upon the success of the original model with significant enhancements in power, range, and design sophistication.

Both models feature updated design elements that maintain the iX’s distinctive appearance while introducing more dynamic styling cues. The refined kidney grille now incorporates diagonal lines for a more delicate appearance, enhanced by the debut of BMW Iconic Glow technology, which creates a pulsating light effect when doors are opened or closed – marking the feature’s first appearance in this model line.

The updated adaptive LED headlights with high beam assistant have been redesigned with two angled lights on each side, providing enhanced visibility while minimising glare for oncoming traffic. Both variants come equipped with an expanded exterior mirror package as standard, contributing to their premium road presence.

The flagship BMW iX xDrive60 M Sport Pro delivers impressive performance credentials with 400 kW (544 hp) and 765 Nm of torque, enabling acceleration from 0-100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds and reaching a top speed of 200 km/h. Its 111.5 kWh gross battery capacity provides up to 701 km of range on the WLTP cycle, while supporting DC fast charging at 195 kW – adding 217 km of range in just 10 minutes of high-power charging. The vehicle also supports AC charging at 22 kW for convenient home charging solutions.

Exclusive to this variant is the M Sport Package Pro, which includes distinctive 22-inch M aerodynamic wheels in 1025 M Multicolour 3D polished finish with red Sport brakes and M Lights Shadowline. The M Aerodynamics package further enhances the vehicle’s aggressive stance with sharpened contours at both front and rear.

Inside, the M Sport Pro package creates a distinctly athletic atmosphere with M emblems on the instrument panel, M multifunctional seats wrapped in Sensatec M upholstery in Black and Alcantara in Atlas Grey, accented with colored M stripes. The package includes a round M leather steering wheel with Dark Silver accents, Dark Silver trim finishers, and an anthracite headliner. Smoked lights at front and rear complete the sportier aesthetic, while customers can alternatively opt for the Interior Design Suite for a more luxurious ambience.

The BMW iX xDrive45 Sport offers 300 kW (408 hp) and 700 Nm of torque, achieving 0-100 km/h acceleration in 5.1 seconds with an identical 200 km/h top speed. Its 100.6 kWh gross battery capacity delivers up to 602 km of range on the WLTP cycle. Significantly, the charging capabilities have been improved to support DC fast charging at 175 kW – 25 kW more than the previous BMW iX xDrive40 variant – providing 166 km of additional range in just 10 minutes of high-power charging.

This variant features 21-inch aerodynamic wheels in 1012 Bicolour 3D polished finish that complement the vehicle’s sporty profile while enhancing aerodynamic efficiency.

Both electric models share a luxurious interior environment with generous space and characteristic BMW ambience. Standard equipment includes ambient lighting, a Panorama glass roof Sky Lounge that enhances interior spaciousness, and an 18-speaker, 655-watt Harman Kardon surround sound system for an immersive audio experience.

The BMW Live Cockpit Professional provides intuitive access to navigation, entertainment, and vehicle settings, while BMW IconicSounds Electric offers a distinctive range of audio signatures to enhance the driving experience. Convenience features include multifunctional seats for the driver, Comfort Access System, wireless charging storage, and automatic air conditioning with four-zone control.

Luggage capacity measures 500 litres, expandable to 1,750 litres with rear seats folded, providing practical versatility for various lifestyle needs.

A standout feature across both iX variants is the BMW Digital Key Plus system, part of the Comfort Access package. This comprehensive digital access solution includes a physical key, Setup Card, and Service Card for easy installation and management. Users can quickly activate the Digital Key Plus by holding the Setup Card near their smartphone or scanning a QR code.

The system allows drivers to share up to 18 digital keys with others, with the ability to set specific roles and limitations such as speed or acceleration restrictions – particularly useful for novice drivers or fleet management. Vehicle functions can be controlled through the My BMW app, while the Service Card ensures seamless transition back to physical key access when needed for service appointments or emergency situations.

The new BMW X5 xDrive40i M Sport represents a significant milestone as a locally assembled vehicle featuring comprehensive design modifications that create the impression of an entirely new model. The fourth-generation X5, which first entered production in 2018, received its most recent update with the introduction of the plug-in hybrid X5 xDrive50e M Sport in 2024. This new mild-hybrid variant marks another evolution in the X5 lineage.

The front of the new X5 has been substantially redesigned, featuring a new three-dimensional BMW Iconic Glow kidney grille paired with redesigned adaptive LED headlights that have been slimmed down by 35mm for a more refined and dynamic appearance. The signature daytime running lights adopt a bold X-shaped design concluding in outward-pointing arrow shapes that emphasise the vehicle’s width and road presence.

A newly sculpted front apron incorporates triangular air intakes and vertically arranged air curtains, completing the commanding frontal appearance. From the side profile, the vehicle features staggered 21-inch M light alloy wheels with V-Spoke design, paired with M Sport brakes for enhanced stopping power and visual appeal.

The rear design continues the sporty theme with slender, three-dimensional taillights featuring a stylized X design and an updated rear apron that reinforces the vehicle’s athletic character. The standard M Sport package brings additional dynamic elements to the overall design aesthetic.

Powering the X5 is BMW’s new-generation 3.0-litre six-cylinder inline petrol engine, representing the latest iteration of an engine family that has been central to BMW’s engineering DNA for over nine decades. This advanced powerplant benefits from extensive innovations affecting the combustion process, camshaft control, injection system, ignition timing, and exhaust gas routing.

The engine incorporates the latest version of VALVETRONIC fully variable valve control, which reduces frictional torque during overrun conditions by approximately two-thirds, enabling more efficient harvesting of braking energy. Combined with a 48V mild-hybrid system, the 3.0-litre unit produces 280 kW (381 hp) and 540 Nm of torque – representing significant increases of 35 kW (47 hp) and 70 Nm over its predecessor.

Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and BMW’s intelligent all-wheel-drive system, this powertrain enables the X5 xDrive40i M Sport to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds while achieving a maximum speed of 250 km/h.

The SAV’s exceptional handling characteristics are delivered through a sophisticated chassis system featuring double wishbone front suspension and five-link rear suspension, enhanced by Dynamic Damper Control for optimal road behaviour. The self-leveling two-axle air suspension system provides remarkable versatility, automatically lowering the body by 20 millimeters in Sport mode at speeds above 138 km/h for improved aerodynamics and stability.

For off-road capability, the system can raise the vehicle by up to 40 millimeters, while a convenience function allows lowering by 40 millimeters at the touch of a button for easier loading and unloading. This combination of maximum sportiness, ride comfort, and off-road capability positions the X5 xDrive40i M Sport as a standout performer in the premium SAV segment.

The interior of the new X5 xDrive40i M Sport has been comprehensively redesigned to deliver modern sophistication and luxurious ambience. The centerpiece is the elegant BMW Curved Display system, featuring a 12.3-inch information display seamlessly integrated with a 14.9-inch control display, creating a fully digital interface for easy access to essential functions.

A wider trim strip above the instrument panel enhances the horizontal layout, serving as an elegant backdrop for the BMW Curved Display. The inclusion of a Light Bar on the front passenger side and integrated control elements below the Central Display adds refinement to the overall interior atmosphere.

Sport seats come standard for both driver and front passenger, offering electric adjustment with memory function for personalised comfort. “Sensafin” upholstery, a premium synthetic material that mimics fine-grain leather, enhances the cabin’s premium feel while providing durability and is included as standard in Black. The M leather steering wheel combines luxury with precision for dynamic driving, while the M headliner in anthracite reinforces the sporty character.

The redesigned center console features a cleaner layout with the BMW Controller and touch-sensitive function keys for effortless control, while gear changes are now performed via a modern rocker switch design. Luggage capacity measures 650 litres, expandable to 1,870 litres with rear seats folded.

All three new models come equipped with BMW’s most advanced driver assistance systems as standard. The Driving Assistant Professional integrates camera and radar-based features including Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Emergency Stop Assistant, Automatic Speed Limit Assist, Lane Change Assistant, Lane Keeping Assistant with side collision protection, Crossing-Traffic Warning, Evasion Assistant, Intersection Warning with city braking function, and wrong-way warning functionality.

Parking Assistant Professional (Parking Assistant Plus on the iX models) provides comprehensive support for tight manoeuvring situations. This camera and ultrasound-based system includes reversing assistant, Active Park Distance Control, lateral parking aid, and Surround View System with Remote 3D View. Automatic parking supports both parallel and perpendicular spaces, while the Manoeuvring Assistant can save up to 10 preset parking paths of up to 198 meters in length, which can be activated via smartphone.

The vehicles feature BMW Live Cockpit Professional powered by BMW Operating System 8.5, supporting multiple interaction modes including the iDrive Controller, voice commands, touch input, and optional Gesture Control. The system’s self-learning capabilities recognise individual driving habits and proactively suggest helpful features for a more personalised experience.

User-configurable widgets display real-time information including navigation and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, which guides drivers throughout their journey. The X5 additionally features a full-colour BMW Head-Up Display, allowing drivers to maintain focus on the road while accessing key information.

Standard connectivity features across all models include Intelligent Emergency Call, Teleservices, ConnectedDrive Services, Connected Package Professional, and Smartphone Integration, ensuring comprehensive digital integration.

The recommended retail pricing (excluding insurance) positions the vehicles competitively within Malaysia’s premium automotive segment:
