Views from The Indian Pacific from Adelaide to Sydney and Perth, including the Nullarbor

Some photographs of Australia from my first couple of work-trips aboard The Indian Pacific train, run by Journey Beyond Rail. Images in the second section are photographed on the Pixel 9 XL Pro and images in the first section, mainly of the Nullarbor, are photographed on the Nikon D810. One trip was from Adelaide to Sydney and back and another was from Adelaide to Perth and back.

The edge of the Nullarbor Plain definitely has more greenery than the rest of the flats. Since I’m working, there isn’t a lot of time to photograph the landscape, which is why you might find that most photographs look similar – which is because they were snapped up pretty much around the same 30 minute time window as the train was speeding through, almost at the end of the Nullarbor. It’s a stunning vista nonetheless. The world’s largest single exposure of limestone bedrock. I can only imagine, probably quite inaccurately, what it would look like to drive through it – on a four-wheeler. I’d go absolutely insane with the number of images I’d make!

Train windows add an additional dimension to the landscape. Of safety and protection. And air-conditioning! Different locations within the train give you different framing choices, not all are available to guests though.

The shrubbery too, in itself, is SO interesting to photograph. Softer edges amongst the otherwise harsh landscape. Greens of all hues, indicating life, popping up from the red plain. Made me wonder what this landscape looks like when it rains. definitely reminded me of the khadeens of Rajasthan, which I was privileged enough to experience during all four seasons. The contrast between Summer and Monsoon is unforgettable.

As mentioned above, the photographs were shot from a moving train, which can sometimes catch speeds of upto 115 kmph. The areas closer to the bottom of the frame are blurred, even when I was using a shutter speed of 1250 and more. Shot on the Nikon D810 with the 24-70mm F2.8 lens topped with a polarizing filter.

A few images shot on the Pixel, below:
