Who are you at your best

Who are you at your best

Posted on August 20, 2025 By Rehan No Comments on Who are you at your best

Who are you at your best? What does it mean for you to be your best self? And why does that now feel just a little teeny bit corny?

If it is your own lovely self that is holding you back, sign up here for a free course to get yourself out of that trap [and skip the rest of this post because you can get started straight away].

I started my Life Coaching business more than a decade ago (more on that and my story here). As part of the training I did, I also completed a web design course. Through MUCH trial and error, learning and frustration, the not infrequent stressy tantrum/tears, plus some begging of favours and additional help from techy friends, I designed and built my own website.

I have revised and redone the website a few times since then, and continue to skirt round the very edges of the vastness of what there is to know about all things technology. But I have got there and I am proud of what I have achieved.

As part of the business launch process, I came up with a name and a tag line.

Becoming your best self…

…this feels a little tired now and very much over used. Spend two minutes on the socials or online and you will find someone exorting you to live your best life, be your best self, give it your best shot/focus/energy.

Hey ho.

But the concept remains an important one and I want you to do something with me this week as you read these musings.

[On that, a huge thank you for taking the time to read my musings, it means a whole lot to me, as a one man band, that you take time to read what I write. It helps on all those days when I am doing behind the scenes planning, writing, scheduling. Thank you]

Imagine something with me: you are your best.

Who are you at your best?

What does that look like?

Who is that person?

What makes that person unique in terms of abilities, characteristics, experience, personality?

How does that person treat and speak to themselves and other people? How well aligned are their day-to-day choices with their values?

Now here is the tricky bit.

We don’t always behave or commuicate as our best selves. Sometimes, what comes out in terms of what we say and do comes from our least best selves, out of hurt, criticism, pride, insecurity, jealousy fear – you name it. Sometimes, it is our own inner voice, that critical self-talk that hamstrings us and stops us being our best selves. We know who we want to Close up of a white rose - who are you at your bestbe, and what we want to do, but our behaviour seems quite in contrast with this. Our thoughts take us off in a very different direction from that in which we want to go.

But we have a choice.

There is much in life over which we have no control. But we DO have choice in how we respond.  We can choose to speak or behave in a way that reflects us at our best.

Who are you at your best?

Before you make a decision, stop and think – in saying this, or behaving in this way, am I becoming more or less like the version of me that I want to be? The me that is the Me I would want described at the end of my life, without huge regrets?

What if the person stopping you being your best you is….well…you?

That inner voice that condemns, is harsh and critical, or simply focuses on what you have NOT done rather than acknowledging what you HAVE…if that is you, there is a different way.

Yes, it doesn’t have to stay like this.

You can unlearn those negative thoughts and change the power balance of what is going on in your head.

Is this simple?

Yes.

Is it easy? No, not at all. It might feel like learning a completely new language. But that is ok. Why? Because you are smart, and have done hard things before.

Do you have to do this on your own?

Ah, I’m glad you asked. No. I can help. I can walk you through the process, one step at a time, with lots of clear How-To steps and encouragements along the way.

Want to get started straight away?

Simply sign up here and I am excited with you about what you are about to do. Who are you at your best? Someone who is kinder and more respectful to yourself, who sees and believes in your own worth.

That is worth the work.
