Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London’s two Michelin Star restaurant, has announced ‘Sunday Roast Potato Time’, a new lunch menu served exclusively on Sundays, showcasing Heston’s unique take on a British classic – the roast potato.
Turning conceptions of what the Sunday Roast is all about on its head, the gifted team behind Dinner by Heston Blumenthal has created a menu which puts the roast potato at centre stage.
The tradition of the Sunday Roast as we know it today is thought to date back to 18th Century Yorkshire. Canny families would prepare the feast, leaving it in the oven before heading to church, so that when they returned, they would be greeted by a hearty and delicious meal. These days, the Sunday Roast remains a favourite across the country and its rich, warm flavours are synonymous for many with the joy of coming together as family and friends around a table.
In true Heston Blumenthal style, this menu offers guests the opportunity to experience a historical classic with a twist. Dinner by Heston Blumenthal’s Sunday Roast menu invites diners to appreciate the potato as the centrepiece of this legendary dish. While the meat can change – chicken, beef, pork and lamb are all favourites across the nation.
Blumenthal believes that the seemingly humble spud is the undisputed essential to the Sunday Roast. The new menu benefits from Heston’s own long-term research into different potato varieties and cooking techniques, all to craft the perfect texture – with a crunchy outside and a soft, fluffy centre, and now guests can savour the roast potato in its finest form.
To compliment Heston’s perfect potatoes, Head Chef Adam Tooby-Desmond’s talented kitchen offers guests the choice of succulent Roast Chicken & Stuffing, tender Roast Beef & Yorkshire Pudding, or delicious Roast Cauliflower and Macrows. Diners can also choose to indulge in truffle mash, add caviar to their potatoes or truffle to their meat as an additional supplement. Starter options include the famous Meat Fruit (c.1500), Hay Smoked Salmon (c.1730) and Salamagundy (c.1720), while dessert highlights feature Dinner by Heston Blumenthal classics, Tipsy Cake (c.1858), and Sambocade (c.1390). Also offering a children’s menu, ‘Sunday Roast Potato Time’ caters to the whole family, making it the ideal weekend destination.
Sunday Roast is priced at £98 and is available from 13 October on Sundays from 1pm until 3pm.
