Jaecoo Malaysia is making strides in the automotive energy transition with the launch of its J7 PHEV premium SUV, becoming the first in Southeast Asia to introduce this model. Aimed at bridging the gap for consumers hesitant about fully electric vehicles, the J7 PHEV offers a compelling middle ground in new energy mobility.
“From the start of our journey in Malaysia, JAECOO debuted as the market’s challenger premium SUV brand. Today, we are proud to retain our position as a challenger premium SUV brand in the new energy mobility space with the JAECOO J7 PHEV. With the introduction of the JAECOO J7 PHEV, we look forward to catering to the evolving needs of Malaysia’s discerning customers. The Super Hybrid System (SHS) with its best-in-class technology and performance is what we believe enhances Malaysia’s vibrant hybrid vehicle landscape and creates room for competitive growth. Essentially, we’re happy to provide greater options to drivers looking to make the transition to hybrid mobility, in support of Malaysia’s energy transition ambitions.”
Emily Lek, Vice President of JAECOO Malaysia

The J7 PHEV is equipped with Jaecoo’s Super Hybrid System (SHS), comprising a 5th Generation 1.5L Turbocharged Gasoline Direct Injection engine producing 141hp and 215Nm. To achieve maximum efficiency, it harnesses advanced technologies such as the Deep Miller cycle, an intelligent lubricating system, smart thermal management, and a sophisticated exhaust gas recirculation system.
The second component is JAECOO’s single-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. This innovative transmission allows the J7 PHEV to operate in electric vehicle mode at low speeds, even while idling. It can disconnect from the engine, enabling drivers to move without using a drop of petrol. Yet when drivers demand power, the electromagnetic clutch re-engages the engine to deliver maximum torque to the front wheels—accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.5 seconds. The innovative transmission allows the J7 PHEV to operate in electric vehicle mode at low speeds, disengaging the engine when possible. When power is needed, the engine re-engages, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds.
The third and final component is the High Voltage (HV) Battery. The 18.3 kWh battery, built with a 106-cell Lithium Iron Phosphate Blade design, ensures drivers can charge to 100% while its smart battery management system never lets the charge fall below 20%. This guarantees optimal battery health and performance throughout its life cycle. Rated to last up to 1 million km, it is fortified with 780 mpa battery armour so that even in a collision, discharge is prevented. It is also puncture-proof.
The Lithium Iron Phosphate Blade battery is designed for longevity, rated to last up to 1 million km, and protected by robust 780 mpa battery armour. It also boasts an IP68 rating, ensuring resistance to dust and water, making it suitable for Malaysia’s weather conditions. The J7 PHEV’s battery is resistant to dust and water, earning it a IP68 rating, the highest standard rating on the IP scale. Engineered to perform under extreme temperatures, especially for Malaysia, the J7 PHEV’s battery remains weather resistant, impervious to hot weather and flooding. For the first time in a PHEV, the JAECOO J7 PHEV supports fast DC charging—boosting up to 40 kW from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes. At home, owners can conveniently charge their JAECOO J7 PHEV using an AC wall box (can be purchased separately) at 6.6kW from 0 to100% in less than 4 hours. The J7 PHEV supports fast DC charging, reaching 80% charge in just 20 minutes with a 40kW charger, and can be fully charged in under 4 hours using a 6.6kW AC wall box.

Jaecoo claims that the J7 PHEV Super Hybrid System can travel up to 1,300km (NEDC range) on a single tank and charge. The three components in the Super Hybrid System are the bedrock of JAECOO’s confidence in the J7 PHEV Super Hybrid System’s ability to travel up to 1,300km (NEDC range) on a single tank and a single charge. The JAECOO J7 PHEV has a class-leading pure electric range of 106km (NEDC range) and the lowest fuel consumption in its class, at 4.77 (NEDC range) litres per 100km, in a power-depleted state. It features a pure electric range of 106km (NEDC range) and fuel consumption of 4.77 litres per 100km (NEDC range) in a power-depleted state.
The J7 PHEV distinguishes itself from its ICE variant with a two-tone Olive Grey hero color option, 19” Aero Rims, aero side mirrors, and a Cinema Tonneau Cover that doubles as an outdoor projection screen. JAECOO has integrated signature exterior features that will enable the J7 PHEV to be easily distinguished from its ICE variant. The hero colour is presented in a striking 2-tone Olive Grey, complemented by 19” Aero Rims and an aero side mirror. At the rear, the exhaust tips are discreetly hidden, and a standout feature is the Cinema Tonneau Cover. The underside of the tonneau cover is white and can be flipped to convert into a screen. With this, users can project movies or livestream sporting events outdoors through a projector powered by the 3.3kW Vehicle to Load capability. The J7 PHEV is currently available in three colours, namely Khaki White, Carbon Crystal Black and Moonlight Silver. Khaki White will be a highly coveted limited-edition option as there will only be 100 units of its kind in Malaysia, after which JAECOO will subsequently introduce an olive grey option.
Interior changes include a column-mounted gear shifter to free up space in the centre console. For the interior, JAECOO has simplified the design of its cabin. A noticeable difference in the J7 PHEV is the relocation of the gear knob to a column-mounted gear shifter. This design frees up space in the centre console and reinforces the simplicity of the J7 PHEV.

Drivers can select full EV mode or allow the vehicle to optimize the mode based on driving conditions. For the first time in a PHEV, drivers have the option to choose either to fully drive in EV mode or to allow the vehicle to decide the optimal mode based on driving conditions. Together with 2 power modes, 3 driving modes, and an additional 3 power saving modes, the J7 PHEV’s entire Intelligent Drive Modes system gives drivers the freedom to either maximise petrol savings and extend range or enjoy maximum power with a full 255 kW and 525Nm at their command. All of which is easily activated with a simple push of a button found on the centre console. The Intelligent Drive Modes system offers two power modes, three driving modes, and three power-saving modes, providing drivers with the flexibility to maximize fuel efficiency or power. Safety features include Level 2.5 ADAS and eight airbags. The J7 PHEV Super Hybrid System also delivers the best in safety and advanced safety systems in its segment. Setting a new benchmark for safety with a comprehensive Level 2.5 ADAS, the J7 PHEV is equipped with eight airbags as a standard and supported by enhanced features like a Driver Monitoring System, Lane Departure Prevention, and Adaptive Cruise Control.
The J7 PHEV Premium SUV (2WD) is priced at RM158,800. All models come with a seven-year engine warranty* (up to 150,000km mileage*) and an eight-year warranty* (up to 160,000km mileage*) on the battery, power motor, and power motor controller unit. The eight-year warranty provides a 1 to 1 exchange* when the state of health (SOH) of the battery falls below 70% during the warranty tenure. An early bird package extends the engine and high voltage battery warranty to 10 years* or up to 1,000,000km* mileage extended engine and high voltage battery warranty. This reflects the brand’s confidence in the J7 PHEV’s Super Hybrid System and battery which are designed to deliver optimal comfort, performance and safety in dynamic driving conditions for bookings placed up to 2 March 2025. All J7 PHEVs also come with a complimentary Vehicle to Load (V2L) charger.
