Review of Tout Bagay Sailing Trip, St Lucia [Review]

Review of Tout Bagay Sailing Trip, St Lucia [Review]

Earlier this year my friend Sophie and I went on a girls trip to St Lucia, where we stayed at the Royalton Resort & Spa, St Lucia. We did two boat trips during our week on St Lucia, and I loved the Tout Bagay Sailing trip with Sea Spray Cruises so much that I wanted to write-up a more in-depth review of the day trip.

When we were looking at all the different excursions and sailing trips in St Lucia, we found it really difficult to figure out what each one included and which would be best for us, so I’m hoping that writing this up will help others in a similar situation!

Please note: this was a vacation, so we paid for the tour ourselves. This is not a sponsored post in any way.

Tout Bagay Day Trip Cost & Itinerary

Tout Bagay is a full day trip (8 hours) run by Nexus and Sea Spray Cruises, that cost $145USD per person as of January 2024.

A bus picks you up from Royalton Hotel around 8:30am, and takes you to nearby Rodney Bay where the boat sails from, and takes you down to Soufriere, the Sulphur Mud Baths, Morne Coubaril Estate, Toraille Waterfall, Anse Chastanet Beach, and Marigot Bay.

Know Before You Go

The boat is a brand new catamaran and is very clean and comfortable. There isn’t a huge amount of shade though, so make sure you take a hat and sunscreen and a cover-up in case you can’t get a seat in the shaded part of the boat.

It’s important to note that while you get a good amount of time at the Sulphur Mud Baths, Toraille Waterfall, and Anse Chastanet Beach, you don’t get any time to see Soufriere (you just drive through it), and you only sail in and out of Marigot Bay, you don’t stop and get off the boat there.

Because of the mud baths, you need to make sure you take black or dark coloured bathers. If you take light coloured bathers, they will get ruined by the suphuric mud.

I took with me:

  • Black bathers
  • Beach dress/cover-up
  • Sunglasses
  • 50+ SPF Sunscreen
  • Beach towel (ideally a dark coloured one because of the mud)
  • Camera
  • Spare change of clothes
  • Flip-flops
  • Bottle of water

Refreshments & Toilets

The boat crew provide constant drinks, including water, and rum cocktails. Lunch is also provided at Morne Coubaril Estate, and there are some snacks later in the afternoon on-board the boat.

You can also buy drinks and other snacks (and souvenirs) at the Mud Baths and Toraille Waterfall. There are toilets and changing rooms at both of these locations and the Morne Coubaril Estate, and a basic toilet on the boat.

The Tout Bagay & Sea Spray Experience

Honestly Sea Spray were absolutely amazing the whole day.

The party started as soon as we boarded the boat, with Caribbean music pumping out and the cheerful staff making sure everyone was happy and settled, and had a drink in their hand.

We sailed down to Soufriere, which took about an hour.

We saw the Pitons as we came into Soufriere and it was ridiculously beautiful! They suddenly appeared in the distance and it was just a really special experience.

When we arrived in Soufriere we were given a choice to either do the guided volcano tour, or the sulphur mud baths.

I personally chose the sulphur mud baths, and the people on my tour who did the guided volcano tour said they wished they had chosen the mud baths. Like I said earlier, you don’t get to explore Soufriere, you just drive through it on the bus, so I took the opportunity when getting on the bus to take this quick snap on my phone!

Sulphur Mud Baths

If you do choose the mud baths, you’re then taken in a minibus up to the sulphur mud baths in the volcano.

We had to wear dark coloured bathers and use one of the brown hotel pool towels because the mud can destroy lighter-coloured items. There are changing rooms at the baths where we were able to change into our swimwear.

Finally ready, we headed for the mud!!

They say that if you cover yourself in the mud and then leave it on for a bit, before soaking in the baths, it fixes skin conditions. BUT, I had an eczema flare-up at the time and it did not get rid of it, so that was kind of disappointing.

But anyway, you basically grab one of the big buckets and dip your hand in, then smear the mud all over your body. We then can waited for a bit for it to dry on our skin, then got into the sulphur spring water to relax.

Don’t rub it off your body, leave it and let it just sit there for a while and it’ll come off in the water by itself. The mud stuck to all the little blonde hairs on my arms!

Morne Coubaril Estate

After the mud baths we hopped back on the bus and were taken to Morne Coubaril Estate where lunch awaited!

We were able to use the toilets here, go to the little gift shop, and enjoy the delicious, fresh buffet lunch.

We did have some time to walk around a little bit, but I did wish we had more time to visit the estate and it would have been nice to have had a little tour.

Toraille Waterfall

After lunch they took us to the Toraille Waterfall. Oh my gosh guys, I was in AWE of this waterfall.

It’s ridiculously beautiful.

Again, they have toilets and changing rooms there, and the Sea Spray staff were amazing at taking photos of everyone under the waterfall.

I won’t lie, it was…an experience.

The waterfall was so heavy and shocked me so much as it thundered down onto my head that my waterfall photo ended up looking, um, not very attractive. It made me laugh so much, but it definitely was not the instagram photo I had been hoping for haha!

As well as the waterfall there were paths we could walk down to explore a bit, and we had around 20-minutes in total to spend at the waterfall.

After all that adventure, we headed back to the boat to start making our way back to Rodney Bay.

Anse Chastanet Beach

On the way back we stopped off to snorkel at the famous Anse Chastanet Beach, which was beautiful.

I mean LOOK at the water!

The Sea Spray staff gave everyone rum cocktails and drinks here, as well as some light bites.

Again, we had about 30-minutes here to snorkel and enjoy the water and beach, before the boat set sail.

Marigot Bay

On the way back to Rodney Bay we passed through famous Marigot Bay which was the last stop of the day.

This is where we were able to see the film location of Dr Doolittle!

It’s a super cute and historic bay and is famous for being a ‘hurricane hole’, used to shelter boats from hurricanes.

Unfortunately you don’t get off the boat here, you just sail in and out of the bay and don’t stop off or anything. To be honest, I think if I was staying in St Lucia for 10-days, I’d definitely get a taxi down to Marigot Bay one night for dinner and drinks – there are so many floating bars and restaurants dotted along the bay and it looks like a fun place to spend an evening!

Arriving back in Rodney Bay

And then that was it! After eight hours we arrived back in Rodney Bay, exhausted but deliriously happy after such a fun and adventurous day out!

Tout Bagay vs Sunset Pitons Cruise

We actually did the half-day Sunset Pitons Cruise as well as the Tout Bagay day trip. The Sunset Pitons cruise is $110USD per person, and it just takes you to swim and snorkel at Sugar Beach by the Pitons. You don’t even see the Pitons at sunset on the Sunset Pitons Cruise (I know), because you’ll be way up by Marigot Bay by the time the sun sets.

For me, Tout Bagay was much better value for money, and a much nicer day trip. It felt calmer, the boat was much newer, and the staff were better IMO. The Sunset Pitons boat was a really old boat that had seen better days, and for $110USD you don’t really get to see much.

Tout Bagay is run by Nexus and Sea Spray Cruises so goes in and out of Rodney Bay, which is much closer to Royalton. The Sunset Pitons tour is run by Carnival Sailing who sail from Castries, and it’s quite a long bus journey to get to Castries from Royalton – it takes between 45-90 minutes depending on how many stops you have to do to pick up guests from other hotels. So you’re spending a lot of the time sitting in a bus instead of being on the boat.

With Tout Bagay, you didn’t need to do this as it was one bus per hotel for transfers, and Rodney Bay was so much closer to the resort.

Don’t get me wrong, Sugar Beach was GORGEOUS. But if you had to choose between the two trips, I would 100% choose Tout Bagay every time.

Would I recommend Tout Bagay?

I honestly really recommend doing the Tout Bagay trip, it was my favourite trip and I thought Sea Spray was a far better company than the company that runs the sunset trip.

You just see sooo much on the Tout Bagay trip and it was such a fun day out and a great way to see more of the island, especially if you’re staying at Royalton so are the opposite side of the island to all of the main sights! Book your Tout Bagay trip here!
