It had been a long time since I’d flown on Singapore Airlines business class. The last time was my flight from Perth to Dubai in 2018.
I had some points that needed using up before they expired, so I booked myself a business class seat on Perth to Singapore flight SQ216.
I was keen to see how the ‘new’ business class on SQ216 compared to the old one I flew back in 2018, and well, needless to say it was a vast improvement!
So, ready to find out what it’s like to fly Singapore Airlines business class from Perth to Singapore? Let’s go!
Check-in Experience
The check-in experience at Perth airport was seamless. The check-in staff were lovely, and even waived the fees on my extra 3kg of luggage.
You see, I was flying business class from Perth to Singapore, but then I would be back in economy from Singapore to London. Because it was one ticket, I wasn’t sure whether I would get the business class luggage allowance the whole way through, or if I would only get the economy allowance.
Because of that, I didn’t go crazy with my shopping in Sydney and Perth, but I still bought a few too many bottles of my favourite shampoo which nudged me 3kg over the 25kg economy limit.
The staff were really kind and waived any extra baggage fees for me.
Soon I had my boarding pass and was on my way through security!
Singapore Krisflyer Lounge at Perth Airport
Perth airport has been completely renovated and updated since I last flew business class from there in 2018.
Because of these updates, the Krisflyer Lounge at Perth airport was different to the one I’d visited previously.
The new one is fine, but nothing special. There were some tasty cakes and pastries, but that was about it. I was also disappointed that they didn’t offer complimentary bottles of water. You can have complimentary bottles of soda and beer, but no water!
Like all Singapore Airlines lounges, the bathrooms were really beautiful with lovely toiletries and amenities.
Business Class Flight SQ216 – A350-900 (A359)
Finally, it was time to board the A350-900 (A359)!
I actually couldn’t believe the difference with this new business class vs the old one.
The old one was so bad I didn’t even take any photos when I flew on it, but I found some online of what it looked like previously…
Also, the old one didn’t have lay flat seats, but I got a solid three hours of sleep on this flight thanks to the new dreamy flat beds.
Boarding Experience & Initial Thoughts
Our flight took off at 1:10am, so I was ready to sleep by the time we boarded.
I don’t really drink alcohol, so I had a glass of orange juice before take-off, and I asked the staff if I could change my meal choice.
I’d booked the famous Singapore Airlines burger through the ‘Book the Cook’ service, which I’d previously used on my Sydney to New York First Class trip with Singapore Airlines. I hadn’t tried the burger before so at the time of booking I was excited to try it!
Then we boarded the plane and I just couldn’t face a giant burger when I was so tired.
So I asked to cancel it and asked to be woken up for pancakes just before landing.
Now, when it comes to configuration, the business class has a 1-2-1 configuration.
Because I booked quite late there were only middle seats left, so I was next to some random guy and I won’t lie, I didn’t want to put the privacy divider up in the middle because I’m British and it felt a bit rude and passive aggressive lol.
But it was fine, it felt like there was a good amount of privacy even with the divider down.
Storage & Settings
Before take-off I acquainted myself with the settings and buttons on the seat, but with my plans to spend most of the flight asleep, I didn’t spend much time with the TV buttons.
There isn’t a huge amount of storage in and around the seat, most luggage will need to go above into the overhead lockers.
Lay Flat Bed
After take-off I set my bed to lay-flat, and got settled. The pillow was lovely and plush, with very soft fabric. Likewise, the blanket was also soft and felt very cosy!
I honestly had a really great sleep, but it’s always quite disappointing that the flight from Perth to Singapore is so short. It generally takes about 4-hours, so just enough time to have a nap and eat some breakfast.
Breakfast Service
The ‘Sleeper Service’ on Singapore Airlines SQ216 is a great addition to the experience.
Instead of having a set time for meals, you’re able to choose the time you want your food so you can have a longer period of undisturbed sleep.
They also provide you with a menu that includes a range of meal types.
On my flight on 10th March 2025, the options (in addition to Book the Cook) were:
- Malay style Chicken with spiced vegetables
- Braised Ee Fu Noodles
- Buttermilk Pancakes with Blueberry Compote
- Scrambled Eggs
These dishes were accompanied by a fresh fruit salad, breakfast pastries and bread rolls, and coffee and tea.
My Buttermilk pancakes were really delicious, and the perfect, light option I needed on little sleep. I don’t know about you, but I never feel particularly hungry when I’m tired and haven’t slept much – it always makes me feel a little nauseous.
I chose a pain au chocolat to accompany my pancakes and it was actually perfect – lovely and crispy and not soggy at all like they often are on planes.
As always with business class on Singapore Airlines, they brought out the fancy white linen tablecloth and proper crockery and cutlery.
Disembarking SQ216 – Final Thoughts
We landed in Singapore around 6:30am, and I felt rested and ready for our layover in Changi airport before my onward economy flight to London.
I really enjoyed my flight on Singapore airlines’ newest business class product from Perth to Singapore – I only wish the flight were longer!
